Brake fluid should be inspected regularly for metal flakes and moisture accumulation. If you do not, your calipers and wheel cylinders will wear down much quicker. Experts also advise car owners not to have their brake fluid topped off at each service visit. Brake pads cannot properly signal car owners that they (the pads) have worn down if fluid levels are too high.
